Juvenile Red Kite, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Green Sandpiper, 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 Gadwall, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Little Grebe, 3 Little Egret, 80 House Martins.

A ringing recovery was received for a juvenile Reed Warbler that was rung in Whillet’s on 28 July and was re-trapped by Rye Bay Ringing Group on 21 August. This is the second juvenile Reed Warbler that has been re-trapped at Icklesham, East Sussex this year and gives an insight into their migration route from Weir Wood.

Dam End (early):- 4 Little Egrets, Tufted Duck, 4 Teal, Kingfisher, Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, several House Martins, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, 3 Sedge Warblers, Yellow Wagtail over and male Redstart.

Whillet’s:- 1 Redstart, 1 Willow Warbler, 4 Whitethroats, 1 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff.
West End:- 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Teal, 1 Coot, 1 Little Egret, 6 Mandarin, 2 Kingfisher.
Dam End:- 5 House Martin, 5 Whitethroats, 1 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Little Egrets, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1Common Sandpiper.

We were ringing in Whillet’s – a number of passerines were migrating through. 16 Chiffchaff were caught. Their weights ranged from 5.5 g to 8.1g in correlation to their size. Other species included: Blackcap, in various juvenile moults including males with full and partial caps, Willow Warbler and Whitethroat.
Other sightings of note: Reed Bunting, Kingfisher, Winchats and Mistle Thrushes.

Whillet’s:- 3 Whinchats, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 10 Common Whitethroats, 6 Willow Warblers, 5 Blackcap, 25 Chiffchaffs, 2 Greenfinch, 4 Bullfinch, 4 Reed Buntings, 4 Swallows, 1 House Martin, 9 Mistle Thrush.
West End:- 5 Teal, 1 Gadwall, 1 Coot, 1 Green Sandpiper, 6 Little Egret, 22 Pied Wagtails on tern rafts, 4 Chiffchaffs, 10 Mandarins.
Dam End:- 1 Sedge Warbler.

Dam End:- 3 Raven, 1 Little Egret, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Swifts, 8 House Martins, 10 Pied Wagtails, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Mandarins, 1 Starling, 160 Goldfinch, 7 Greenfinch, 2 Bullfinch, 8 Chiffchaff, 2 Marsh Tit, 3 Blackcap, 2 Common Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warblers, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Green Woodpecker.
West End:- 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Lapwing, 6 Little Egrets, 1 Gadwall, 1 Teal, 1 Coot, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Raven, 36 Mallard, 3 Mandarins.
Whillet’s:- 1 Treecreeper, 5 Blackcap, 9 Chiffchaff, 2 Greenfinch, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Reed Warblers, 2 Mistle Thrush, 2 Song Thrush, 2 Buzzard, 3 Common Whitethroats, 4 Reed Buntings, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Golden-Ringed Dragonfly, 1 Banded Demoiselle.

West End:- Great Egret, 6 Little Egrets, Redshank, Green Sandpiper, Lesser Whitethroat, Willow Warblers, 3 Kingfishers and 2nd summer Mediterranean Gull.
Dam End:- 4 Swifts, juv Little Grebe, 2 juv Common Gulls, Common Sandpiper and Hobby.

West End:- 1 Great White Egret, 3 Little Egret, 4 Grey Heron, 93 + 2 juv Great Crested Grebe, 21 Cormorant, 84 Greylag, 20 Canada Geese, 32 Mallard, 6 Mandarin, 1 Gadwall, 3 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 1 Lapwing, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Pied Wagtail.
Whillet’s:-  1 Buzzard, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker & 2 Nuthatch heard, 2 Common Lizard & 4 Grass Snakes.
For a hot day, the butterfly transect proved a little disappointing, with just:  4 Meadow Brown, 1 Speckled Wood, 1 Large White, 3 Common Blue, 1 Small Copper.
At Meadow pond were:-  1m Emerald Damselfly, 6 Azure Damselfly, 2m Southern Hawker, 1f Brown Hawker ovipositing, 1m Ruddy Darter (See pic) – also a female Ichneumon Wasp – Amblyjoppa proteus (See pics)
