West End:- 2 Common Buzzards, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 7 Mandarin one of which had 4 very small young, 2 male Reed Bunting, 1 male Bullfinch, 2 Pied Wagtails, 3 Lapwings, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Swifts, 2 Stock Dove, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 4 Common Terns 2 chicks seen, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Goldfinch, 1 Moorhen.
Whillet’s:-  9 Whitethroats, 2 male Reed Buntings, 4 Reed Warblers one carrying food, 7 Grass Snakes, 1 Slow Worm, 3 Blue-Tail Damselfly, 16 Ringlet Butterflies.

West End:-  pair of Common Terns with 3 chicks on L/H raft looking well, + 1 Common Tern adult seen at R/H raft.  4 Mandarin. Water levels have risen markedly and Martin’s Island is now covered. Most of the Great Crested Grebe nests must have been flooded in the storms. But several nests have been rebuilt higher. Also a probable Downy Emerald Dragonfly in front of the hide.

Dam End:- On Tuesday 21/6 there was a Redshank, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 6 Herring Gulls.

West End:  4 Mute Swan, 2 Canada Goose, Mallard, Cormorant, Great Crested Grebe, Woodpigeon, 1 Kingfisher, Jackdaw, 3 Swallow, Chiffchaff, 1 Garden Warbler, Wren, Song Thrush, Chaffinch, Greylag Goose, 4+ Mandarin Duck, Pheasant, Grey Heron, 6 Common Tern, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Magpie, Carrion Crow, 2 House Martin, Blackcap, Reed Warbler, Blackbird, Robin, Goldfinch.
The Common Tern record includes the three chicks still doing well on left hand raft. Kingfisher was a male. The Cuckoo was heard calling from the other side of the road near the car park

West End:- 1 Kingfisher, 4 Mute Swans, 1 Mandarin.
Whillet’s:- 2 Whitethroats with 4 fledged young, 1 Male Reed Bunting, 2 Goldfinch with 1 fledged young. 3 Grass Snakes, 2 Slow Worms,1 Blue-tail Damselfly,1 Four-spotted Chaser.

Dam End:- 3 Grey Wagtails with 2 young, 1 Male Bullfinch, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Goldcrest, 9 Mallard, a couple of pairs of Common Whitethroats with young, 1 Male Beautiful Demoiselle and lots of tiny Toadlets.

West End:- Blue Tit, 8 Cormorant, Great Tit, 20+ Greylag Goose, Rook, Swallow, Carrion Crow, 12+ Great Crested Grebe, Grey Heron, Mallard, Reed Warbler, 3 Woodpigeon.

West End:- 1 Kingfisher, 5 Common Terns + 3 chicks still on left raft, 1 Lapwing, 2 Mandarin, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Common Whitethroats, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard.

17/6/16 West End:-  29 Greylag Geese, 1 Buzzard, 1 Mandarin, 1 Coot, Moorhen adult with chick, 1 Lapwing, 1 Black-headed Gull, 1 Juv Great Spotted Woodpecker. Also heard: Garden Warbler; Nuthatch; Blackcap; Reed Warbler & Chiffchaff all at the car park.
17/6/16 Whillet’s: – 1 Juv Kingfisher, 2 Reed Warbler.

West End:-  2 Common Tern pairs + 3 young on L/H raft – all looking healthy and food coming in. Great Crested Grebe – a nest has been seen with 2 eggs, hopefully we will see chicks this year. 1 Coot, 2 Lapwing, 3 Swallows. 2 Blackcap + Chiffchaff heard at the car park.
Whillet’s:- 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1M Stonechat, 5+ Whitethroat seen in the meadows.
Butterfly Survey – The first Meadow Brown & Large Skipper butterflies (2 off each) were seen on the wing in the meadows.
The “Orange Foxtail” grass which is quite rare in Sussex is benefiting from our recent habitat management work in Whillet’s Pool with good numbers now starting to show.
