Dam End: Firecrest still showing in the car park, 4 Canada Geese with broods of 5 and 2 young, 50 House Martins.
West End: 3 Great Crested Grebes nests, 9 Greylag Geese with broods of 2 and 3 young, 4 Common Terns, 1 Lapwing, 1 Coot, 10 Swallows.

West End: 2 Egyptian Geese on Pintail bank, Pair of Tufted Duck, 3 Common Tern & 1 Pied Wagtail on rafts. Nuthatch pair  & singing Garden Warbler around Car Park area.   Bullfinch heard at Whillets area.

West End: 25 Great Crested Grebes but there is still no obvious sign of any nesting yet, they are still displaying. The Heronry is still active although many of the nests are becoming vacant, as young fledge some of which can be seen around the reservoir. 8 Cormorant, 2 Greylag & 2 Canada Geese, Mandarin – 2M + 1F with 2 young ducklings, 10+ Mallard, 1 Buzzard, 1 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 3 Common Tern at rafts, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Pied Wagtail at rafts, Garden Warbler heard and Nuthatch seen at Car Park.  South Bank: 1 Kestrel & 1 Jay seen & both Mistle & Song Thrush heard.

Whillet’s: 1 Whitethroat, 1M Reed Bunting. It was noted that Beautiful Demoiselle, Large Red & Azure Damselflies are now starting to be seen on the wing. Also the day flying moth Burnet Companion and a Silver Y was seen.

We received an interesting late entry sighting report for the Dam wall for the 5th May:  14 Common Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, 1 Little Ringed Plover.

Whillet’s:  2M+1F Mandarin, Tawny Owl & Song Thrush & Reed Bunting heard.  Butterfly transect sighting – Pair of Orange Tip, 1 Green-veined White & 1 Common Blue Butterfly.

West End:  2 Common Tern, Cuckoo heard distantly, 1 Swallow, Blackcap heard, 2 Nuthatch.

Dam End:  9 Pied Wagtails on dam, 1 Common SandpiperCanada Geese with clutches of 5 & 3 young.         West End:  Mandarin with 3 young, 2 pairs of Common Tern, 4 Greylag Geese.

Evening visit to both ends:   Dam End: 2 Common Sandpiper & 1 Little Ringed Plover on dam wall. 1 Cuckoo calling, 1 Fox in Car Park.      West End: 2 Little Egret roosting in heronry, A Barn Owl flew across reservoir, 1 Coot, 4 Greylag Geese, 1 Mandarin.

West End: A check of the Heronry showed some of this years young have now fledged leaving some vacated nests, unexpectedly a pair of Little Egrets were seen in breeding plumage investigating nests with copulation being witnessed, this will be a new breeding species for the reserve if they stay and nest. 15+ Grey Heron, 2M + 1F Mandarin with 5 ducklings seen. 37 GC Grebe, 8 Cormorant,  1 Coot, 4 Common Terns seen wildly mobbing an unexpected visiting flock of Gulls (40 Herring Gull, 3 Black-headed Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull), Stock Dove heard, 1 Swallow, 1 Pied Wagtail, Song Thrush heard, Garden Warbler singing at Car Park also Blackcap & Chiffchaff, 1 Nuthatch, 1 Jay.

Whillet’s: A family of Mandarin with 7 ducklings, 1 Moorhen, Reed Warbler & Whitethroat heard, 1M Reed Bunting.

West End: 24 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Cormorant, 19 + 1 White Leucistic Grey Heron, 2 Mute Swan, 4 Greylag, 2 Canada Geese, 16 Mallard, 2M + 1F Tufted Duck, 1 Red Kite flew over, 1 Coot, 4 + 1 @ Dam end Common Terns, 2 + 1 @ Dam end Swallows, Marsh & 1 Coal Tit.

Dam end: 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 immature Herring GullCuckoo heard by James Ludlow, 2 Pied Wagtails,

Whillet’s: 1 Buzzard, also Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap heard, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Goldfinch.
